Auto legend Sergio Marchionne who pulled two ailing carmakers from the brink of collapse and led the improbable transformation of Fiat Chrysler into an automotive giant, died on Wednesday, 25th July 2018 in Zurich.
Marchionne had become seriously ill in recent days, he had surgery on his right shoulder in Switzerland three weeks ago, between Friday and Saturday, according to Fiat Chrysler officials, his condition took a sudden turn for the worse with “unexpected complications.”
John Elkann, Chairman Of Ferrari, who replaced Sergio Marchionne, said: “Unfortunately, what we feared has come to pass. Sergio Marchionne, man and friend, is gone. “I believe that the best way to honor his memory is to build on the legacy he left us, continuing to develop the human values of responsibility and openness of which he was the most ardent champion.”
