Tata group is about to begin manufacturing semiconductors in India, Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran told in an interview.

Tata’s plan to launch a semiconductor assembly testing business will bring India on the roadmap of the global chip supply chain. Chandrasekaran stated, “We have created Tata Electronics under which we are going to set up a semiconductor assembly testing business.”
Following the government of India’s semiconductor mission, TATA has shown deep interest in establishing OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) or ATMP (assembling, testing, marking, and packaging) in India.
The enormous market opportunity for high-tech manufacturing of electronics is the next target of Tata group and the firm plans to invest $90 billion over the next five years.
The firm also exclaimed that upstream semiconductor manufacturing i.e. wafer fabrication plant is more challenging both technologically and financially in comparison to the downstream process of assembling and testing.
Chandrasekaran while speaking at the IMC chamber of commerce and industry’s AGM revealed the scope for nations like India to overshadow the global supply chain in the Post-Covid market dynamics.
