In a strategic move, Nestle has nominated Manish Tiwari for the post of Managing Director (MD) to lead its India operations. He will replace Suresh Narayanan who is set to retire from the post.
Manish, who previously led Amazon India, brings a wealth of experience in the e-commerce and FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) sectors.
Leadership Transition at Nestle
Nestle India faces several challenges. The company missed earnings expectations in the last quarter, experiencing its slowest revenue growth in eight years.
Manish’s task will be to revitalize the brand, explore innovative strategies, and navigate the competitive landscape.
Additionally, he may eventually take on the role of Chairman, succeeding Suresh in that capacity as well
Suresh Narayanan, the current Managing Director of Nestle India, is set to retire on July 30 after nearly a decade with the company.
Suresh’s leadership was instrumental in turning around the Maggi brand after it faced regulatory challenges due to high MSG and lead content.
As he steps down, the spotlight shifts to Manish Tiwary, who will need board approval before officially assuming the role of Managing Director.
Manish Tiwary’s Background and Expertise
Manish Tiwary served as the head of Amazon India for over four years, playing a pivotal role in the company’s explosive growth phase.
During his tenure, Amazon India surpassed homegrown rival Flipkart, establishing itself as a dominant force in the Indian e-commerce landscape.
Manish’s expertise in digital strategies and customer engagement caught the attention of Nestle SA, which now sees him as the ideal candidate to steer its Indian operations.
Before his stint at Amazon India, Manish worked with Unilever’s Indian and Middle Eastern subsidiaries. His diverse experience across different markets positions him well to lead Nestle India.
Manish’s familiarity with both e-commerce dynamics and traditional FMCG channels could prove invaluable as Nestle seeks to rejuvenate its sales figures.
