Tech Mahindra (TechM), India’s fifth-largest technology services provider, has announced the appointment of Sumit Kumar Popli as President – Technology, Media, and Entertainment (TME) business.
Before joining Tech Mahindra, Sumit was associated with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as Vice President and Global Head – Hardware & Consumer Technology Industry.
New Role and Responsibilities at Tech Mahindra
Effective October 19, 2024, Sumit assumes the position of President – TME strategic business unit at Tech Mahindra.
His responsibilities include driving growth, innovation, and strategic initiatives within the TME vertical.
This appointment underscores TechMahindra’s commitment to expanding its footprint in technology, media, and entertainment.
Sumit Kumar Popli brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
Having spent over 22 years at TCS, he served as the vice president and global head of the hardware and consumer technology industry (computer platforms).
His expertise extends across various industrial domains, including retail, consumer packaged goods (CPG), life sciences, healthcare, travel, transportation, and manufacturing sectors.
Sumit earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology in Kurukshetra, India, in 1999.
Additionally, he has participated in management development programs at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, Arizona State University, and Imperial College London.

Sumit joins a roster of top-tier executives that TechM has recruited this year.
Rajashree R, formerly Chief Marketing Officer at TCS, now serves as TechM’s Chief Growth Officer for strategic verticals in the Americas.
Additionally, Richard Lobo, a former Chief Human Resources Officer at Infosys, assumed the role of Chief People Officer at TechM in January 2024.
Since taking over as CEO and Managing Director in December 2023, Mohit Joshi has been reshaping TechM’s leadership team.
His vision for the company includes attracting top talent and fostering innovation across business units.
The TME vertical accounted for 14.3% of TechM’s revenue in the quarter ended September 30, 2024.
Notably, it achieved sequential growth of 5.7% and a year-on-year increase of 2.4%.
Sumit’s leadership will play a crucial role in further enhancing this segment’s performance.
