3M reshuffles its leadership team with new appointment of CEO

An American multinational conglomerate operating in the fields of industry, 3M has announced that William M. “Bill” Brown is appointed chief executive officer, effective May 1, 2024.

He assumes the role previously held by Michael Roman, who transitions to the position of Executive Chairman of the 3M Board of Directors, effective May 1, 2024.

On the leadership changes, Michael Roman said, “Bill’s strong track record as a CEO for a global technology company makes him the right leader for 3M.”

“He brings a wealth of experience in strategic leadership, innovation, and operational excellence to 3M”, Michael Roman added.

Commenting on the appointment as the New CEO William M. “Bill” Brown said, “I am excited for the opportunity to lead this iconic global company.”

“I am looking forward to building on that progress as CEO as 3M continues to deliver for its customers, shareholders, employees, and communities around the globe”, William M. “Bill” Brown added.

Brown previously served as Chairman of the Board and CEO of L3Harris Technologies, a leading global provider of aerospace and defense technology solutions.

During his tenure, he held the positions of CEO and Chairman before transitioning to Executive Chair from June 2019 to June 2022.

Before the merger with L3 Technologies in 2019, Brown held the positions of chairman, president, and CEO at Harris Corporation. He began his tenure at Harris Corporation in November 2011 as president and CEO.

Prior to his time at Harris Corporation, Brown accumulated 14 years of experience at United Technologies Corporation (UTC), where he held several leadership positions

Brown earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from Villanova University, in addition to obtaining an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
