Vinay Ranjan joins Coal India as Director– Personnel & Industrial Relations

Coal India Limited on Thursday announced that Vinay Ranjan has taken over as its Director- Personnel and Industrial Relations, effective from July 28, 2021.

Prior to this, he was working as Director- Personnel at West Bengal-based Eastern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of CIL for three years.

Ranjan joins the company at a time when the negotiation for the 11th National Coal Wage Agreement (NCWA-XI), to decide the wages of CIL’s 2.5-lakh strong non-executive workforce, has begun, where he is expected to play a crucial role.

Vinay is a seasoned HR professional with over 26 years of experience in the entire gamut of HR which includes talent acquisition, training and development, compensation management, CSR, and handling legal issues. He has also successfully extended HR support to overseas business entities at different geographies.

Earlier, Ranjan headed the HR team of DB Power Ltd, the Dainik Bhaskar Group company, when it diversified into building two large thermal power plants.

Previously, he also had a stint with Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd, a Navratna PSU, where he led a multi-disciplinary team for full-cycle SAP HR implementation.

A post-graduate diploma holder in personnel management and industrial relations, Ranjan is a graduate in physics. He also completed a one-year executive programme on general management from INSEAD Fontainebleau campus, France.

Coal India Limited is an Indian government-owned coal mining and refining corporation. It is under the ownership of Ministry of Coal, Government of India headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is the largest coal-producing company in the world and a Maharatna public sector undertaking.
