In a significant move aimed at improving the livelihood of its contractual workforce, Delhi government has announced a major salary hike for Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) contractual staff.
The decision follows recent demands raised by DTC employees during a strike, which highlighted issues such as postings far from their homes and the need for better compensation.
Details of Salary Hike by Delhi Government
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi announced that the salary hike will see contractual drivers’ monthly pay increase from Rs 21,918 to Rs 32,918.
Contractual conductors will see their salaries rise from Rs 21,900 to Rs 29,250.
This change will include Basic Pay, Grade Pay, and Dearness Allowance (DA). It will transition from daily allowances to a structured monthly salary.
The Delhi government will fully fund the estimated Rs 222 crore annual cost of this salary revision.
The government has introduced measures to address these concerns.
These include an online system for requesting depot transfers closer to employees’ residences.
It will also reinstate female staff who previously transferred to distant locations.
Training and Job Security
As part of the transition to electric buses, the government has committed to training contractual drivers to operate these new vehicles.
This move will provide job security for contract drivers and conductors as the DTC’s fleet switch to electric buses.
Assistant Ticket Inspectors (ATI) will also receive priority for employment in the new electric bus fleet.
Chief Minister Atishi emphasized that this salary revision reflects the government’s commitment to providing better facilities for DTC staff.
She also highlighted the importance of ensuring they are fairly compensated for their contributions.
The proposal has received in-principle approval and will be forwarded to the Lieutenant Governor for final clearance.
Atishi confidently stated that the implementation will be completed within one to two months.
