One of the World’s largest Social Security Organisations, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has stated provisions that are covered under Social Security Agreement (SSA) For International Workers.
What is Social Security Agreement (SSA)?
A social security agreement or SSA is an agreement between two countries that provides for the protection of the interests of cross-border workers.
The main purpose of Social Security Agreement avoids ‘double coverage’ and treats the workers of both the host country and the home country equally especially in terms of social security.
EPFO has shared the tweet from the official Twitter handle saying, “Provisions covered under Social Security Agreement (SSA) For International Workers. #SocialSecurityAgreement#SSA#EPFO#AmritMahotsav#international#workers“
The provisions that are covered under Social Security Agreement (SSA) are as under:-
- Detachment: International workers deputed to work in a country having an Agreement on Social Security with their home country are not required to contribute to the social security system, provided that they are contributing to Social Security of host country, provided they are contributing to the Social Security of the home country.
- Exportability of Pension: Provision for payment of pension benefits directly without any reduction to beneficiary choosing to reside in territory of home country as also to beneficiary choosing to reside in a third territory of a third country, as outlined in respective SSA.
- Totalization of Benefits: Service rendered in SSA country is added to service rendered in India to determine eligibility for pension.
- Equality of Treatment: Equality of Treatment to IWs from an SSA country with host country workers.
