Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced that approximately 8.6 lakh candidates have enrolled in the ‘IndiaAI Future Skills’ initiative.
This initiative, developed in collaboration with industry partners, aims to democratize Artificial Intelligence (AI) education and skilling across India.
IndiaAI Future Skills: Program Overview
The ‘IndiaAI Future Skills’ initiative is part of the broader IndiaAI Mission, which is built on seven foundational pillars.
The mission seeks to make AI technology accessible to all, fostering inclusivity and innovation.
The Future Skills pillar specifically focuses on enhancing India’s AI workforce readiness by mitigating barriers to entry in AI programs and advancing the AI talent pipeline.
A key focus of the initiative is decentralizing technological facilities by empowering Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
AI Data Labs are being established in cities such as Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Shimla, Aurangabad, Patna, Buxar, and Muzaffarpur.
This move will spread technological advancements across the country. It will ensure that they do not limit to urban hubs.
IndiaAI Future Skills: Enhancing AI Education
The initiative aims to increase AI courses in undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs.
It also fosters inclusive access to AI education by establishing Data and AI Labs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to impart foundational level courses.
Under the ‘IndiaAI FutureSkills’ initiative, the IndiaAI fellowship is offered to B.Tech and M.Tech students of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) recognized engineering institutions.
The Union Minister emphasized the potential of AI to positively impact various sectors, including agriculture, education, healthcare, logistics, and finance.
By developing AI solutions tailored to India’s unique challenges, the government aims to enhance productivity and improve lives.
FutureSkills PRIME Program
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has also initiated a program titled ‘FutureSkills PRIME,’ jointly with the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom).
This program will be re-skilling/up-skilling candidates in new and emerging technologies.
