Group medical insurance scheme for staff
Air India has discontinued medical dispensary services for its employees and replaced them with a group medical insurance scheme.
The airline’s chief human resources officer, Suresh Dutt Tripathi said in a letter to AI Engineering Services, “We have already discontinued the in-house medical services of our own employees.”
He added, “Instead they all have been covered under a newly introduced group medical insurance policy w.e.f. 16.05.2022. Besides, it has also been decided to wind up our medical infrastructure shortly.”
The airline has also informed AI Engineering Services that it would not be able to provide dispensary services beyond September to the employees of the former subsidiary. Firms like AI Engineering Services, AI Airport Services, and Alliance Air were all subsidiaries of Air India earlier and HR rules were similar for all these companies.
Vacate quarters by July 26, 2022
TATA group-owned Air India has asked the staff living in the government housing colonies in Delhi and Mumbai to vacate their quarters by 26 July 2022. It has almost 1800 employees residing in these two locations.
Air India had given the employees six months’ time to vacate these houses in 2021 which was given to them instead of a house rent allowance. Employee unions have been raising their voices against the move, and even plan to approach the High Court.
The order as directed by the Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) is in the form of a reminder to vacate the accommodation employees living in the quarters.
This move has come as the Government will continue to hold Air India’s non-core assets including the said housing colonies post-acquisition by the Tata Group.
