Tech mogul Elon Musk, who owns X (formerly Twitter), claimed on Wednesday that artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to surpass individual human intelligence by next year. ABP reported.
Musk’s statement came following a video featuring podcaster Joe Rogan and futurist Ray Kurzweil discussing the timeframe for AI reaching human-level intelligence.
Currently entangled in a legal battle with OpenAI, the developer of the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, Elon Musk claims that AI is on track to exceed the cognitive abilities of any individual human by 2025.
Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI, helmed by Sam Altman, alleges that the company breached their founding agreement by partnering with tech titan Microsoft. This dispute underscores Musk’s concerns about the trajectory and governance of artificial intelligence.
In a conversation with Joe Rogan, Ray Kurzweil stated that achieving artificial intelligence at the level of human cognition is projected to occur by 2029.
Kurzweil noted that while we’re not quite there yet, we’re on track, and by 2029, it will rival any individual. He cautioned that some anticipate it happening as early as next year or the year after.
In response to a video snippet of the conversation on X, Musk commented, “AI will likely surpass the intelligence of any individual human by next year.
By 2029, AI will likely be smarter than the collective intelligence of all humans combined.” Musk’s remarks underscore his anticipation of rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, aligning with predictions from experts like Ray Kurzweil.
Earlier this week, tech mogul Elon Musk announced plans for his AI company, xAI, revealing intentions to open-source “Grok,” a chatbot aimed at competing with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Musk stated that xAI Grok would be accessible to the public later in the week, according to a report by Reuters. Musk, speaking on a podcast with Lex Fridman, expressed his support for the concept of open-source AI. His startup had initially introduced the AI model to a limited group of users in November of the previous year.
Since Musk acquired the platform in 2022, he aims to develop it into a comprehensive “everything app,” akin to Tencent’s WeChat.
