Ericsson Antenna System (EAS) has announced the expansion of its local manufacturing capabilities in India, solidifying the country’s position as a strategic innovation hub within the company’s global network.
Antenna manufacturing will take place in Gurgaon, meanwhile, Ericsson’s logistics hub in Pune will support distribution and supply chain operations across the region.
By June 2025, Ericsson plans to localize 100% of its passive antenna production for the Indian market. The move is aimed at accelerating India’s 5G rollout, enhancing responsiveness to local market needs, and deepening collaboration with Indian partners.
Partnership with VVDN Technologies
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with VVDN Technologies, a leading product engineering and manufacturing firm. This partnership brings India into Ericsson’s global supply footprint, which already includes Mexico, Romania, and China.
Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System, said, “At Ericsson, antennas are critical as they serve as the entry point to enhanced network performance and innovation. Expanding our manufacturing in India strengthens our ability to deliver cutting-edge technology faster and closer to where networks are being built.”
The expansion is designed not only to meet domestic demand but also to make India a key export hub for antenna systems. A significant portion of the antennas manufactured locally will be exported, enabling Ericsson to reduce lead times and better serve regional and global customers.
Support for India’s 5G Rollout
Ericsson has had a presence in India for over 120 years and was the first telecom company to manufacture in the country in 1994. Over the years, the company has played a major role in India’s telecom growth and was among the first to showcase live 5G use cases, including a 5G-powered music concert.
Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India, commented, “This expansion reflects our commitment to India’s digital and industrial future. By localizing production and building a strong ecosystem, we are ensuring faster deployments and greater resilience in our supply chain.”
The new facility will be fully managed by Ericsson and supported by a robust local supplier network, ensuring adherence to global quality standards. With antennas now designed and manufactured in India for both local and international markets, Ericsson is taking a significant step towards shaping the future of global network infrastructure.
