HCLTech disapproves moonlighting, continues to add employees in Q2
The company added 8,359 employees during the quarter. As of September 30, 2022, the HCLTech employee count is 219,325 from 208,877 as of March 2022 quarter.

A global technology company, HCLTech has said that it does not approve of dual employment, the issue is not a major one within the company.

Ramachandran Sundararajan, Chief People Officer of the company said during the Q2 earnings briefing said, “Dual employment while working for HCL Tech…we do not approve that.”

“Everybody who signs up to work for HCL Tech is signing up employment contract which requires exclusivity. The requirements around confidentiality and non-compete… all those provisions that are there we expect our employees to honour those commitments”, Ramachandran Sundararajan added.

He further said, “We don’t have that as big problem that we have too many people indulging in dual employment. It is not a big problem. We have had one or two stray instances.”

On the same concern India’s IT services provider company, Wipro has laid off 300 employees who were found working with its competitor companies at the same time employed with Wipro.

Earlier, Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji also described moonlighting as “cheating plain and simple.” Other India’s Top IT giants including Infosys have criticized the moonlighting practices and have termed it as ‘unethical’ and ‘cheating’.

Milind Lakkad, Global Head HR, TCS said, “Moonlighting is an ethical issue and it’s against the company’s core values as well as culture.”

However, there have been a few companies such as Swiggy and Tech Mahindra that have come out in the favour of moonlighting.

The company added 8,359 employees during the quarter. As of September 30, 2022, HCLTech’s total headcount is 219,325 from 208,877 as of March 2022 quarter. The company’s attrition remained stable at 23.8%.

Wipro added 605 new employees. As of September 30, 2022, Wipro’s headcount in IT services increased to 259,179 from 258,574 at the end of June. The company has reported an Attrition Rate of 23%, moderating slightly from 23.3% in the previous quarter.

TCS added 9,840 employees in the September quarter and the total headcount stood at 6,16,171. TCS hired 20,000 freshers in Q2, an increase of 33% over the previous quarter. However, freshers hiring have slowed down. TCS hired 35,000 freshers in Q1FY23 which is down from 43,000 in Q1FY22.
