
Online fraud related to Jobs has been highlighted in the last couple of months specifically related to Work from Home (WFH Jobs).
In a recent incident, as reported by TOI, a woman lost over Rs 6 lakh to cyber criminals, and in another incident, the woman lost over 60,000. While highlighting the incidents these women were promised work-from-home (WFH jobs).
In the third incident, a Mumbai-based techie lost over Rs 17 lakh in an online scam involving a fake part-time job offer related to hotel bookings.
In the first case, a 32-year-old senior HR Manager from a private firm said she received a text message on her mobile. Through this message she was offered the Work From Home additionally she was assigned a set of tasks. Moreover, she invested Rs 6 lakh and did not receive it back.
Top IT company employee loses over Rs 17 lakh
In the incident, a Mumbai-based techie lost over Rs 17 lakh in an online scam involving a fake part-time job offer related to hotel bookings. The scammers took around Rs 17.28 lakh over a few days. Moreover, when the techie asked them about his promised money, he got no response.
Homemaker lost over Rs 67,000 Work from Home
A 29-year-old homemaker reported told Cubbon Park police she lost over Rs 67,000 to miscreants who promised her a WFH job.
The complainant said in her complaint, “I was asked to complete 30 reviews for ‘I am London Airlines’, which I did. They paid me Rs 1,000 instantly.”
“Then they sent me some more reviews and asked me to deposit Rs 67,000, promising me a good return. I did so but I couldn’t contact them later on what happened to my money,” the complaint added.
In a similar earlier incident, In a work-from-home scam in Karnataka, woman Saritha S lost Rs 8.2 lakh in the alleged fraud scheme. She is a resident of Sector 43.
In this work-from-home opportunity, the woman was asked to subscribe to a YouTube channel. She received a WhatsApp message about an opportunity that was providing the option to work from home and earn money.
According to an FIR filed by Saritha S accused under sections 419 (cheating by impersonation) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Cybercrime Unit in Manesar Police Station. Additionally, the Police are investigating the case.
