IT Minister Challenges TCS, Infosys, and Wipro to Lead India’s Tech Revolution

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has issued a clarion call to India’s leading IT giants—TCS, Infosys, and Wipro—to transition from being service providers to becoming product innovators.

Speaking at the 32nd ICT Business Awards & DQ Digital Leadership Conclave, organized by Dataquest India, the minister emphasized the need for India to establish itself as a global technology leader by developing indigenous products, including a mobile operating system tailored for the nation.

Ashwini’s address underscored the government’s vision to position India as a global technology leader.

He expressed confidence that India could one day be recognized as part of a “T5″—the top five technology nations—alongside groups like the G7 and G20.

“We must not only address today’s challenges but also build foundations for the future—developing technologies and products that place India among the top five technology nations,” he said.

IT Minister Gives A Call for Indigenous Innovation

During his address, Ashwini acknowledged the remarkable contributions of TCS, Infosys, and Wipro in the global IT services sector.

He stressed that the time has come for these companies to focus on creating innovative products.

Such efforts can help position India among the top five technology nations globally.

“Yes, you have been doing very well in providing services, but now is the time for India to become a product-driven nation,” he stated.

The minister assured government support for this endeavor.

He highlighted the vision and resources provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage big thinking and innovation.

The minister posed a key challenge to develop a mobile operating system. This system would be specifically designed for India.

He urged the IT giants to accept this challenge and contribute to the nation’s technological self-reliance.

“From this platform, I urge our leading tech companies—Infosys, TCS, and Wipro—to accept this challenge: create a mobile operating system for our nation,” Ashwini said.

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of reducing dependency on foreign technology and fostering indigenous innovation.

Advancing Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductor Manufacturing

Ashwini also highlighted the government’s commitment to democratizing artificial intelligence (AI) and leading in this domain.

He announced the launch of the AI Compute Portal.

This platform will provide researchers, startups, and government bodies with access to advanced GPUs and high-performance computing resources for AI development.

“Yesterday, we launched a shared compute facility with 14,000 GPUs,” he revealed.

This facility aims to empower researchers, students, and startups to test AI models, refine algorithms, and build world-class applications.

The minister disclosed that five semiconductor manufacturing units are currently under construction. The first “Made in India” chip will roll out this year.

These efforts are part of the government’s technology roadmap to achieve its 2047 goals.

The roadmap focuses on developing independent AI models, designing graphics processing units (GPUs), supporting startups, and nurturing talent.
