TCS on Sexual Harassment Key take aways
TCS called its employees to Work From Office in FY23-24, and the company has reported a rise in sexual harassment cases.

According to Mint, TCS reported 110 sexual harassment complaints globally in 2023-24, higher than 49 complaints reported in 2022-23, which only included Indian operations, excluding non-wholly owned subsidiaries, as per the annual report.

This distinction in reporting contexts highlights the complexity of interpreting the numbers, indicating that while there has been an apparent rise in reported cases, a direct year-on-year comparison may not accurately reflect the actual change in incidents within TCS’ India-based workforce.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Chairman N Chandrasekaran said, “We are operating in a global environment with an employee base of over 600,000.”

TCS called its employees to Work From Office in FY23-24, and the company has reported a rise in sexual harassment cases. On this basis, the shareholder asked if remote working could solve the problem, questioning why TCS hesitates to do so.

Responding to this, the Chairman said “The company is constantly enforcing and encouraging a culture of openness. We always want people to express themselves. If there is harassment, people should raise it; when they do so, the number goes up”

“Remote work isn’t the remedy for addressing incidents of sexual harassment; education proves to be the most effective tool for tackling such workplace issues,” he added
