Tech Mahindra, one of India’s leading IT services companies, has announced plans to set up a Global Capability Centre (GCC) for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Hyderabad.
The new centre is expected to employ 300 professionals and will focus on research and development (R&D) and IT operations.
Background and Context: Tech Mahindra Project Details
The decision to establish the GCC aligns with Tech Mahindra’s broader strategy. CEO Mohit Joshi, who took over in December 2023, has spearheaded this strategy.
The company aims to boost operating margins, accelerate revenue growth, and eliminate unprofitable accounts as part of its three-year turnaround plan, Project Fortius.
The GCC will handle Goodyear’s R&D and IT operations, strengthening the company’s global technology capabilities.
Tech Mahindra plans to allocate approximately 2% of its 150,488 employees to manage the GCC.
This move is part of the company’s commitment to scaling its workforce for specialized projects and expanding its presence in the IT sector.
Economic Impact, Employee Training and Development
The establishment of the GCC is expected to have a positive economic impact on Hyderabad.
It will create job opportunities and contribute to the city’s growth as a major IT hub.
The initiative also underscores the growing adoption of build-operate-transfer (BOT) models in major contract renewals.
Tech Mahindra has announced plans to train about 8,000 of its employees in advanced technologies.
These include cybersecurity, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence (AI).
This investment in learning and development aims to upskill and reskill employees. The goal is to meet the demands of the evolving technology landscape.
