Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has extended the registration deadline for the PM Internship Scheme (PMIS) to April 22, 2025.

This extension provides aspiring candidates with additional time to apply for this prestigious initiative, which aims to empower India’s youth by offering structured internship opportunities in top companies across various sectors.

Initially set to close on April 15, the deadline extension reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing employability and skill development among young professionals.

Overview of the PM Internship Scheme

The PM Internship Scheme was first introduced in the Union Budget 2024–25 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

It is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world experience by placing interns in India’s top 500 companies.

The program offers a 12-month internship, during which participants gain hands-on exposure to professional work environments.

Selected interns will receive a monthly stipend of ₹5,000, with ₹500 paid directly by the employer based on attendance, performance, and conduct.

The remaining ₹4,500 will be transferred by the Government of India to the intern’s Aadhaar-linked bank account.

Additionally, interns will receive a one-time enrollment incentive of ₹6,000 at the start of the program.

To apply for the PM Internship Scheme, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: Applicants must be between 21 and 24 years old as of the application deadline.

Key Features of the Scheme, Impact and Vision

The PM Internship Scheme stands out for its innovative approach to skill development:

  • Nationwide Reach: The program is open to candidates from all 730 districts of India.
  • Top Recruiters: Interns will have the opportunity to work with leading companies such as Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, L&T, and HDFC Bank.
  • Focus on Practical Experience: At least six months of the internship must be spent in a real work environment, rather than classroom settings.
  • Financial Support: The stipend and enrollment incentive aim to provide financial stability to interns from economically weaker backgrounds.

The PM Internship Scheme is part of the government’s larger vision to enhance employability and skill development among India’s youth.

The pilot phase targets 1.25 lakh interns in 2024–25, with a long-term goal of training one crore youth over five years.

By offering internships in diverse sectors, the scheme aims to equip participants with the skills and insights needed to build successful careers.
