Airbus, the renowned European aircraft manufacturer, has announced ambitious plans to expand its footprint in the country.
According to Airbus India and South Asia’s President and Managing Director, Remi Maillard, the company aims to have more than 5,000 direct employees in India within the next couple of years.
This move not only underscores Airbus’s commitment to the Indian market but also signifies a major boost for the nation’s aviation ecosystem.
Expansion Plan: Key Highlights
Airbus currently employs around 3,500 people directly in India and sources services and components worth 1 billion euros from the country.
However, the company is set to further enhance its sourcing footprint.
By investing strategically, Airbus aims to touch USD 2 billion in sourcing from India in the coming years.
This substantial increase reflects the growing importance of India as a manufacturing and services hub for the global aviation industry.
Airbus is collaborating with Air India to establish a second pilot training center in India.
This joint venture will contribute to enhancing the skill set of aviation professionals and ensuring a steady supply of well-trained pilots for the industry.
The center will play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand for aviation training in the region.
As part of its expansion plans, Airbus will invest in developing a state-of-the-art 5,000-seater Airbus campus in Bengaluru.
This facility will serve as a hub for research, development, and innovation, fostering collaboration between Airbus and Indian partners.
The campus will contribute to India’s aerospace capabilities and create employment opportunities for skilled professionals.
Airbus Make-in-India Initiatives
Airbus reflects its commitment to the “Make-in-India” vision. The company has already made significant strides in this direction by partnering with the Tata Group.
Two notable programs are underway:
C295 Military Aircraft: Airbus will manufacture the C295 military transport aircraft in India.
This marks a historic achievement as the first aircraft fully manufactured in India by the private sector.
H125 Helicopter: The H125 helicopter will also be produced in India through the same partnership.
This initiative demonstrates Airbus’s confidence in India’s manufacturing capabilities.
Airbus is actively collaborating with Indian research organizations to support the commercialization of the first ‘Made in India’ Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
This effort aligns with global sustainability goals and emphasizes India’s role in advancing eco-friendly aviation practices.
