Telangana government has announced 30% pay hike, retirement age increased by 3 years
The Telangana government has announced a 30% pay hike for over nine lakh state government employees and teachers as per the 11th Pay Revision recommendations.
The government has also decided to increase their retirement age from 58 years to 61 years, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced in the state assembly on Monday.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao made the announcements on the floor of the Assembly on Monday. He said the coronavirus pandemic was a disaster that has shattered the state’s economy. The 11th pay revision was delayed by a year due to an unexpected fiscal deficit, he added.
“In the present scenario of a recuperating economy, we are revising the 11th pay scale in better manner that will cover all the employees, teachers in the state,” said KCR.
The pay hike is effective retrospectively from the last financial year. The chief minister said his government would pay arrears of the salary hike for the last 12 months to the employees, despite the fact that the state’s financial position was precarious due to drastic fall in revenues on account of Covid-19 pandemic. The arrears would be paid to the employees along with their other retirement benefits, he said.
The revised pay scale is expected to benefit contract employees, outsourcing employees, Home Guards, Anganwadis, Asha Workers, SERP Employees, Vidya Volunteers, KGBV, Sarva Siksha Abhiyaan employees, VRAs, VAOs, Grant in Aid, Work charged, daily wage, and other employees. A total of 9,17,797 government employees will receive a pay hike.
After deliberations with employees, teachers unions in the state, the government has taken up the process of promotions as requested by government employees.
Till now 80% of the promotion process of employees is completed. The state government will immediately begin the promotion process of remaining eligible employees along with eligible teachers. The CM assured that the process of filling vacancies created by promotions will also begin shortly.
KCR also announced increase in the retirement gratuity to be paid to all the employees from the present ₹12 lakh to ₹16 lakh. “Similarly, the government has decided to reduce the age of eligibility for the retired employees from 75 to 70 years for the payment of additional quantum of pension of 15%,” he said.
The government would take up inter-district transfer of employees for spouse cases, so that husband and wife working in different districts could now work in the same district. It also decided to repatriate Andhra employees working in Telangana to their native state and orders to this effect would be issued shortly.
