Swiggy has said that the company plans to bring on board an additional 300,000 delivery executives within the next year and a half. That will take the total headcount to 500,000.

At the company’s Tech Conference, Gigabytes which was held on 18th October 2019, Friday, Swiggy’s CEO, Sriharsha Majety expressed confidence over the company’s future and said, “If some of our growth estimates continue, it will not be too many years before we can be the third-largest source of employment in the country, behind the Army and Indian Railways.”

According to Times of India report, The Indian Army has 12.5 lakh soldiers, while the Railways had more than 12 lakh staff as of March 2018. So far, IT major TCS with a staff strength of 4.5 lakh employees is the largest private-sector employer.

Swiggy’s rival Zomato had 2.3 lakh delivery executives in September, while Flipkart has 1 lakh delivery executives.

Currently, Swiggy has 2.1 lakh active delivery staff. Employing 3 lakh more people would take the total number to more than 5 lakh If Swiggy manages to increase its employee strength to 5 lakh, then it will surpass TCS to become the largest private-sector employer.
