As India’s economy grows, women increasingly take up apprenticeship opportunities across diverse industries.

Dhriti Prasanna Mahanta, Vice President & Business Head at TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship, highlights that the roles listed below have become the most sought-after apprenticeship opportunities for women.

The expansion of sectors such as manufacturing, retail, IT, and logistics primarily drives the surge in demand.

Customer Care Executive: Handles customer queries and resolves issues via phone, email, or chat.

Computer Operator and Programming Assistant: Manages data entry, basic programming, and system maintenance. As India’s digital economy continues to expand, companies are increasingly seeking skilled professionals for IT support and back-office operations.

Retail Trainee Associate: Assists in sales, inventory management, and customer service in retail stores. Brands are actively training apprentices to manage in-store operations efficiently.

Assembly Line Operator: Works in automobile, electronics, or consumer goods factories, assembling products with precision. The government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative is driving demand for skilled operators in the manufacturing sector.

Data Entry Operator: Inputs and manages large volumes of business data. As data-driven decision-making becomes increasingly crucial, this role has become essential in IT, banking, and logistics.

Packaging Machine Worker: Operates machinery for food processing, pharmaceuticals, and FMCG packaging.

Automotive Assembly Technician: Traditionally a male-dominated role, it is now witnessing growing participation from female apprentices. The role involves assembling vehicle components in both electric vehicle (EV) and traditional automobile manufacturing units.

Quality Engineer: Ensures that manufactured products meet safety and performance standards. The rapid growth of India’s electronics and automotive sectors has increased the demand for quality assurance experts.

Junior Software Developer: Writes and tests code for applications and software solutions, playing a pivotal role in the IT and software development industries.

Conclusion

These roles not only provide promising career paths for women but also reflect the ongoing transformation of India’s workforce.

With the rise of initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and the expansion of the digital economy, women are stepping into diverse and dynamic roles, proving their mettle across sectors that were once predominantly male-dominated.

As more organizations embrace diversity and inclusion, the future holds immense potential for women in apprenticeship roles.
