Air India Express has terminated nearly 25-30 employees after mass sick leave. Moreover, the remaining employees were given an ultimatum to join duty by 4 pm today.
The termination letters issued read, “An overwhelming number of other cabin crew members have also reported sick and not reported for their duties. This clearly points to a pre-meditated and concerted abstention from work without any justifiable reason.”
“Your act amounts to a concerted action with a common understanding, to not operate the flight and to disrupt services of the company. You will no longer be considered an employee; you will no longer have access to official emails, servers, or other communication; and you and your dependants shall not be eligible for any employee-related benefits provided by the company”, it added.
Air India Express has canceled over 80 flights from May 7 due to over 200 cabin crew reporting sick, protesting alleged HR mismanagement and practices at the Tata Group-owned airline.
The extensive number of crew members involved suggests widespread discontent among the airline staff. The situation has prompted attention to the internal challenges faced by Air India and the grievances of its workforce
“While we are engaging with the crew to understand the reasons behind these occurrences, our teams are actively addressing this issue to minimize any inconvenience caused to our guests as a result,” the Air India Express spokesperson said in a statement.
Due to shortage in the cabin crew has caused the delay of several flights and also led to the cancelation of over 80 flights.
According to the PTI, “Civil aviation ministry asks Air India Express to resolve issues promptly amid flight cancellations.”
