EdTech company WhiteHat Jr lays off 300 jobs
This comes at the back of mass layoffs, restructuring, and shutdowns in the edtech sector. The employees from the sales and marketing team at WhiteHat Jr are largely impacted by this round of layoffs.

WhiteHat Jr, an Indian online educational technology company has laid off 300 employees due to cost cuts. This is the latest company among the startups globally to lay off its workforce due to the market downturn.

This comes at the back of mass layoffs, restructuring, and shutdowns in the Edtech sector. The employees from the sales and marketing team at WhiteHat Jr are largely impacted by this round of layoffs.

The spokesperson said, “WhiteHat Jr is focused on providing quality education to young students while continuing to build a strong business. To realign with our business priorities, we are optimizing our team to accelerate results and best position the business for long-term growth.”

The current round of downsizing has affected employees both in India and other geographies, where the company operates.

Earlier this year, over 800 employees had reportedly resigned from WhiteHat Jr after they were asked to work from the office.

This has come after the company has asked its employees to return to the office within a month. On March 18, the company announced the policy to end work from home and asked remote employees to return to the office by April 18.

In 2020, WhiteHat Jr founder Karan Bajaj sold his 18-month-old start-up to Byju’s founder and chief executive officer Byju Raveendran for $300 million in an all-cash deal — over the video conferencing platform Zoom itself. Bajaj continued to lead and scale this business in India and the US.

Earlier many companies like Udaan lays off 180-200, Cars24, Vedanta, Meesho, Trell, Furlenco, MPL, Front Row, and many others laid off many employees in India.

Many other companies such as Netflix lays off 300 employees and Tesla laid off 10% of its Staff.

Also, Ola laid off about 2,100 employees in the January-March quarter this year, followed by Unacademy (over 600), Cars24 (600), and Vedantu (400). The commerce firm Meesho laid off 150 employees, and Furlenco 200.
