Wipro sacks 120 employees in US over 'realignment of business needs'
Due to the layoffs, more than 100 of the impacted employees are from the processing agents. The remaining sacked employees are from the team leaders and team managers. These impacted employees are from the Tampa location.

An Indian multinational corporation, Wipro has sacked 120 employees in the US over ‘realignment of business needs’.

According to reports, Due to the layoffs, more than 100 of the impacted employees are from the processing agents. The remaining sacked employees are from the team leaders and team managers. These impacted employees are from the Tampa location.

The layoffs will start in May. The company currently employs nearly 20,500 employees in the United States, Canada, and LATAM (Mexico and Brazil).

According to reports, The company filed a notice about the layoffs in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

“Wipro remains deeply committed to the region. And all other Wipro employees serving clients in the Tampa area remain unaffected,” the company said.

The company has recently announced the opening of its Americas Headquarters in East Brunswick, New Jersey.  The newly renovated East Brunswick office reaffirms Wipro’s ongoing commitment to clients in the Americas region, which makes up nearly 60% of Wipro’s global revenues.

So far in 2023, there have been 658 layoffs at tech companies with 175,560 people impacted (2,222 people per day). In 2022, there were 1,535 layoffs at tech companies 241,176 people were impacted.

Wipro’s Earlier Layoffs

Earlier, Wipro sacked 452 fresher employees due to poor performance. Earlier in September 2022, The company laid off 300 employees who were found working with its competitor companies and at the same time employed with Wipro.

Company Salary Reduction of Freshers

The company also reduced the employee’s salary by 50 percent from Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh per annum.  

The company said in an email to candidates, “Like others in our industry, we continue to assess global economies and customer needs, which factor in our hiring plans. Currently, we have project engineers’ roles available for recruitment with an annual compensation of Rs 3.5 lakh.”

The union of IT employees Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) said that it ‘strongly condemns the unethical layoffs done by Wipro.’ The IT employee union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has filed a complaint against Wipro in the Labour Ministry.
