Anurag Verma, the Head – People and Culture at ShareChat, is set to leave the company.
His departure marks the end of a notable tenure at one of India’s largest homegrown social media platforms.
This news comes amid a series of high-profile exits and workforce reductions at ShareChat, reflecting broader trends in the tech industry.
Reasons for Departure and Impact
Anurag’s decision to leave ShareChat is part of a broader trend of senior executives exiting the company.
Alongside Verma, Shashank Shekhar, the Senior Director of Content Strategy and Operations, is also set to depart.
According to sources, Anurag is looking to work in a more “peaceful” environment, while Shashank plans to continue his entrepreneurial journey.
Anurag’s departure comes at a time when ShareChat is undergoing significant changes.
The company has been implementing cost-cutting measures, including workforce reductions, to navigate a challenging economic environment.
In January 2025, ShareChat laid off around 30-40 employees, or 5% of its workforce, as part of these measures. The company aims to reduce its employee count to 500 by March 2025.
Despite these challenges, ShareChat has been making strategic moves to enhance its technological capabilities and expand its reach.
The company recently launched its first AI center of excellence in Southeast Asia, located in Singapore, to develop machine learning models and enhance its AI capabilities.
Additionally, ShareChat appointed former TikTok executive Nitin Jain as its CTO.
He will lead the development of technology and applications at ShareChat and its short video app Moj.
