WhatsApp announced appointment of Abhijit Bose as head of WhatsApp India. Bose, who joins WhatsApp from Ezetap where he has served as co-founder and CEO will build WhatsApp’s first full country team outside of California and will be based in Gurgaon.
Abhijit Bose and his team will focus on helping businesses, connect with their customers. Earlier this year, WhatsApp released the WhatsApp Business app for small business owners and the WhatsApp Business API to serve larger businesses that engage with customers at scale. Today, there are over one million users for these WhatsApp business products in India, Company statement.

The move comes after the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) pressed the company to have a corporate presence in India and also a grievance officer.
WhatsApp was under stress after the forward messages circulating in the platform lead to violence and mob killings. The Ministry also sent two notices in July to the company mandating it to work out a more effective solution to tackle fake news.
Bose is a graduate of Harvard Business School and Cornell University.
