In a significant stride toward sustainable energy, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is poised to inaugurate India’s maiden solar giga-factory during the financial year 2025.
This ambitious project underscores RIL’s commitment to green energy and its visionary Chairman, Mukesh Ambani, who is steering the conglomerate toward a cleaner and more resilient future.
Reliance Solar Giga-Factory: All-in-One Manufacturing Hub
RIL’s solar giga-factory will consolidate the production of various solar components under one roof. It will manufacture photovoltaic (PV) modules, cells, wafers, ingots, polysilicon, and glass—all at a single location.
Solar panels produced in Jamnagar have already obtained Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification, ensuring quality and reliability.
RIL envisions its green power segment as a growth engine that could potentially outperform other business verticals in the next five to seven years. Simultaneously, RIL plans to develop a robust local supply chain, reducing reliance on imports and enhancing self-sufficiency.
The giga-factory aligns with Industry 4.0 trends, offering futuristic courses on Big Data, Machine Learning, and Analytics.
RIL has also received Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) awards for Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC), emphasizing its commitment to cutting-edge technology.
Employment Generation
Direct and Indirect Jobs: The giga-factory is projected to create approximately 4,000 jobs—both directly within the factory and indirectly through the supply chain.
Skill Development: These employment opportunities span a wide range of roles, from manufacturing technicians to logistics experts, contributing to skill development and economic growth.
“New Energy will be commissioning its first train of Module and Cell Manufacturing in FY25. Solar panels manufactured in Jamnagar have
obtained BIS certification,” the industrial conglomerate said in its annual report on August 7.
“Simultaneously, we would develop a supply chain locally for self-sufficiency and reduce the reliance on imports,” the company said.
Expanding Renewable Energy Ecosystem
Covering an impressive 5,000 acres in Jamnagar, Gujarat, this complex aims to host a series of state-of-the-art giga factories. Besides solar panels, it will focus on fuel cell systems, green hydrogen, energy storage solutions, and power electronics.

RIL has signed an MOU with the Government of Maharashtra for 100 kTPA green hydrogen (GH2) production. The total projected investment of ₹15,000 crore underscores RIL’s commitment to sustainable development and job creation.
Wrapping Up!
Reliance Industries’ solar giga-factory represents a pivotal moment in India’s transition to renewable energy. As the first of its kind, it not only generates employment but also sets the stage for a cleaner, greener future.
With RIL’s visionary leadership, the sun is rising on a new era of energy production—one that benefits both the environment and the workforce.
