A distressing account of workplace exploitation has surfaced, sparking widespread outrage and reigniting debates on labor laws and employee rights.

A Reddit user recently shared their harrowing experience of being forced to work a grueling night shift, only to be asked to continue working until 12 PM the next day without any break.

The incident has drawn attention to the toxic work culture prevalent in certain corporate environments and the severe toll it takes on employees’ mental and physical well-being.

The Ordeal: A First-Hand Account of Toxic Workplace

The employee, who works in program monitoring, detailed their ordeal in a Reddit post that quickly went viral.

They described being tasked with monitoring screens throughout the night to identify and report any issues with finance programs.

Despite completing their night shift, they were instructed to continue working until noon the following day.

The employee expressed their anguish, stating, “I had no sleep from yesterday till today 12 PM. After which I tried sleeping but couldn’t fall asleep. It literally broke me from inside.”

The situation became even more challenging knowing that this grueling schedule would persist for the next four days.

Moreover, it was set to recur at the beginning of every month.

The employee likened the experience to torture, emphasizing the emotional and physical toll of extreme sleep deprivation.

Social Media Reactions

The Reddit post ignited a firestorm of reactions, with many users condemning the company’s actions and expressing solidarity with the employee.

Comments ranged from empathetic advice to scathing criticism of toxic work cultures.

One user remarked, “They want to torture you until you turn into a zombie or a coolie,” while another speculated about the consequences of refusing such demands, asking, “I’m assuming that if you say no or just go home, they’ll fire you?”

Some users suggested practical solutions, like logging off after completing the handover. Others recommended demanding additional compensation for the extended hours.

Others highlighted the broader issue of workplace exploitation, with one user stating, “This is never acceptable.”
