Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal recently sent a stern email to employees regarding poor attendance, which has since gone viral on social media.
The email, which was leaked online, has sparked a debate about workplace policies and employee discipline.
Ola, founded by Bhavish Aggarwal in 2010, is one of India’s leading ride-hailing companies.
The company has expanded its services to include electric vehicles and food delivery.
Recently, Ola has been focusing on streamlining operations and cutting costs, which includes laying off 500 employees.
Ola CEO’s Stern Warning
In his message, Bhavish expressed his frustration over the shockingly low attendance rates among employees.
He accused employees of “fleecing the company” by not showing up for work and emphasized that such behavior was disrespectful to colleagues who genuinely put in hard work.
Bhavish stated, “I would imagine everyone has the basic self-respect to not fleece the company by not even turning up for work.”
He announced that starting Monday, stricter attendance rules would be enforced, and HR would have conversations with employees who have misused their freedom.
He dismissed complaints about the company’s facial recognition system, saying, “Let’s not insult basic intelligence.”
Bhavish Aggarwal urged employees to come to work, do good work, and feel a part of Ola’s mission.
Employee Reactions and Comparison to Elon Musk
The email has received mixed reactions from the public.
Some users praised Bhavish’s no-nonsense approach to fostering discipline, while others criticized it as overly harsh.
One user commented, “Rather than asking them to talk to HR, it’s @bhash who must introspect as to why they are not turning up to work.”
Another user suggested that creating a work environment where employees enjoy working would be more effective than strict attendance policies.
Bhavish’s email has drawn comparisons to tech billionaire Elon Musk, who is known for making bold moves and strict policies.
Some users joked that Bhavish was trying to take a page out of Elon Musk’s playbook.
