YesMadam, an online beauty services platform, recently found itself at the center of a controversy following the alleged firing of 100 employees who reported workplace stress.
The company’s HR department sent out an email suggesting that employees who indicated significant stress in a survey would be terminated.
This email quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread criticism and speculation that the firings were a publicity stunt.
Viral Email from YesMadam
The controversy began when Anushka Dutta, a UX copywriter at YesMadam, shared a screenshot of the HR email on LinkedIn.
The email stated that employees who reported high levels of stress would be let go to ensure a healthier work environment.
The post quickly gained traction, with many users expressing shock and anger at what they perceived as an inhumane decision by the company.
Internet users were skeptical about the legitimacy of the email, with many speculating that it was a marketing gimmick.
Some pointed out that the timing of the post, just over three months before April Fool’s Day, seemed suspicious.
Others criticized YesMadam for exploiting a serious issue like workplace stress for promotional purposes.
Former employees also came forward, claiming that the company had indeed resorted to layoffs in the past, but not specifically for stress-related reasons.
YesMadam’s Response and New Initiatives
In response to the backlash, YesMadam issued a statement clarifying that no employees were actually fired.
The company explained that the email was part of a planned social media campaign to highlight the importance of addressing workplace stress.
YesMadam emphasized that they would never take such an inhumane step and apologized for any distress caused by the posts.
To further emphasize its commitment to employee well-being, YesMadam announced the introduction of the “Happy 2 Heal” policy.
This policy includes six paid leave days for employees to de-stress, along with complimentary spa sessions at home.
The company hopes that these initiatives will help improve mental health and create a more supportive work environment.
