A recent survey by WorkIndia has revealed a significant gap between employer willingness to hire non-local talent and candidate willingness to relocate for job opportunities.
According to the report, 80% of employers are open to hiring non-local candidates, while only 28% of candidates are willing to relocate for a job.
This highlights the growing need for flexible recruitment strategies and the challenges faced by both employers and job seekers in the current job market.
Non-Local Talent Hiring: Survey Findings
The survey, which included responses from 2,000 employers and 1,154 candidates, was conducted from January to December last year.
It found that while a majority of employers are embracing modern recruitment methods, such as conducting online interviews and offering relocation benefits, a significant portion of candidates remain hesitant to relocate for work.
Among the employers surveyed, 80% expressed a willingness to hire non-local talent, with two-thirds conducting online interviews and 50% offering relocation benefits to deserving candidates.
This indicates a positive shift toward national talent acquisition, with most employers now recruiting candidates from all parts of the country.
Industries such as logistics, manufacturing, and retail are increasingly dependent on non-local blue-collar talent and are leveraging digital platforms to streamline the recruitment process.
Despite the openness of employers, 72% of candidates reported being unwilling to travel or relocate for a job.
Various factors, including personal and family commitments, financial constraints, and the desire to stay close to home, cause candidates to be reluctant.
The survey also revealed that 57% of employers reported no challenges in hiring outstation candidates, indicating a positive shift toward accommodating non-local talent.
Regional Trends and Industry Impact
The survey highlighted regional trends, with certain cities being more attractive to job seekers.
Preferred cities for relocation include Delhi (12%), Pune (11%), Bengaluru (4%), and Ahmedabad (4%), with 19% of candidates open to relocating to any city.
This shows that candidates are willing to move, but often only to specific regions with perceived better job prospects and quality of life.
Industries such as logistics, manufacturing, and retail are increasingly dependent on non-local blue-collar talent.
Many employers in these sectors are offering relocation support to attract skilled workers to metropolitan hubs.
This trend underscores the importance of flexible recruitment strategies and the need for employers to provide incentives to encourage relocation.
