The latest report from TeamLease EdTech reveals a significant surge in the intent to hire freshers esp in IT sector in India.
This figure has risen to an impressive 74% for the first half of 2025.
This marks a notable increase from previous periods and highlights the growing demand for young talent across various industries.
The report also underscores the remarkable recovery of the IT sector, which has seen a substantial rebound in hiring intentions.
According to the TeamLease EdTech Career Outlook Report HY1 2025, the overall intent to hire across all categories stands at 79%.
This growth is driven by several key sectors, including IT, healthcare and pharma, marketing and advertising, and logistics.
The report is based on a comprehensive survey of 649 employers across India, providing valuable insights into the current hiring landscape.
IT Sector Leads Recovery of Freshers Hiring; Other Sectors Join
The IT sector has experienced a remarkable recovery, with entry-level hiring intentions surging to 59% compared to 45% in the second half of 2024.
This resurgence is attributed to the increasing demand for deep-tech roles such as Clinical Bioinformatics Associate, Robotics System Engineer, Sustainability Analyst, Prompt Engineer, AI & Machine Learning Engineer, Cloud Engineer, and Cybersecurity Analyst.
Companies are particularly seeking candidates skilled in Robotic Process Automation, Performance Marketing, Network Security, and Financial Risk Analysis to address contemporary business needs.
In addition to the IT sector, other industries have also showcased strong recruitment momentum.
The intent for hiring in e-commerce and technology startups increased from 61% to 70%, while manufacturing and engineering saw a rise from 52% to 66%.
The healthcare and pharmaceuticals sector also showed positive momentum, increasing from 47% to 52%.
Even traditionally smaller sectors like power and energy, and marketing and advertising have displayed modest growth, with increases of 4% and 2% respectively.
Geographical Spread of Opportunities and Emerging Skill Demands
The geographical spread of opportunities continues to favor major metropolitan areas.
Bengaluru leads the pack with a hiring intent of 78%, followed by Mumbai at 65%, Delhi NCR at 61%, and Chennai at 57%.
These cities remain primary employment destinations for recent graduates, offering a plethora of opportunities across various sectors.
As India catches up to the global AI wave, deep-tech roles are emerging as prominent career paths.
Companies are increasingly valuing computational thinking, interpersonal skills, analytic reasoning, and adaptability as crucial soft skills for entry-level positions.
The report highlights the importance of developing skills in AI-driven domains, adaptability, and digital competencies to secure meaningful roles in India’s dynamic job market.
