Dell Requires Global Sales Team to Adopt Full In-Office Workweek

Dell Technologies has mandated that its global sales team members who are capable of working from company offices must do so five days a week, starting September 30. 

This move comes as part of Dell’s efforts to foster a more collaborative work environment. The company aims to enhance the professional development of its sales force.

Dell Return to Office: Memo and Rationale

According to an internal memo seen by Reuters, Dell Technologies communicated the new requirement to its sales team. 

The memo emphasizes the need to leverage a collaborative environment and “grow skills,”. This, the company believes, can best be achieved through in-person interactions within the office setting.

While remote work has become commonplace during the pandemic, Dell now asserts that working remotely should be the exception rather than the routine.

Field representatives within the sales team are expected to spend the entire workweek either with customers and partners or at the office. Previously, these representatives were required to work from the office for three days per week. 

Now, the five-day in-office mandate aims to enhance teamwork, knowledge sharing, and relationship-building with clients and stakeholders.

Remote Work Exceptions at Dell

Dell acknowledges that some sales team members may not have access to a Dell office. This could be due to geographical constraints or other reasons.

For these remote workers, the company will continue to support remote work arrangements. However, the emphasis remains on in-person collaboration for those who can be physically present at Dell offices.

Industry Trends

Dell’s decision aligns with a broader trend among tech companies. While remote work flexibility was widely embraced during the pandemic, several organizations are now recalibrating their policies. 

Amazon.com, for instance, recently announced that it would require employees to return to company offices. The company has announced five days a week in office, toughening its previous three-day mandate.

The balance between remote work and in-office presence continues to evolve as companies seek to optimize productivity, innovation, and employee well-being.
