The Sikkim High Court introduced a new policy granting menstrual leave to women employees in its registry.

Sikkim High Court women employees can avail menstrual leave of 2-3 days in a month. This progressive step is aimed at recognizing and addressing the unique health needs of female staff members.

By implementing this policy, the court acknowledges the importance of supporting women’s health and well-being in the workplace.

The notification said, “Women employees in the High Court Registry may henceforth avail menstrual leave of 2-3 days in a month, provided they approach the Medical Officer attached to the High Court first and obtain the latter’s recommendation for such leave.”

“The leave account of women employees shall not be debited on availing such leave”, the notification further added.

In April 2024, Punjab University in Chandigarh has introduced menstrual leave provisions for female students starting from the upcoming semesters in the academic session 2024-25.

By offering this leave option, Punjab University endeavors to create a more inclusive and supportive academic environment, ensuring equitable opportunities for all students.

Menstrual leave is provided to acknowledge and accommodate the physical and emotional challenges that individuals may experience during menstruation.

The menstrual leave allows individuals to take time off to rest, manage their symptoms, and prioritize their health without the added stress of worrying about attendance or productivity.

This move aims to accommodate the needs of females, acknowledging the challenges and discomfort they may face during menstruation.
