With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing unprecedented changes in work-life; along with masks and sanitizers, working from home (WFH) became a lifestyle change for professionals.

Most of the employees (80%) admitted that they prefer working from home (WFH) to going back to the office. Hence, if you are someone who loves the idea of working from home, here are eight companies that switched to permanent work from home.

Slack

San Francisco-based Slack said in 2022 that contrary to its office-first culture, going forward it allows employees the option to work remotely forever.

The company had said in the blog, “As hopes for a quick recovery from the coronavirus pandemic have faded, it’s time to think more broadly about how we work. After all, successfully adapting to remote work depends on much more than replicating at home the same processes we once carried out in a physical office.”

Twitter

Social media platform Twitter has announced in mid-2020 that most of its employees can work from home. The company’s CEO Jack Dorsey told employees via email that they would be allowed to work from home indefinitely, even after COVID-19 shutdowns end.

But the offer does not extend to employees whose jobs mandate that they return to the office, like those tasked with server maintenance, It added.

Spotify

Sweden-based music streaming platform Spotify confirmed in February, that it had decided on work from anywhere policy for its employees.

According to this policy, Spotify employees can work from home or office, wherever they want, even after the pandemic ends. Furthermore, the employees can even work outside of their city or country too, even at places where there are no Spotify offices.

Moreover, they can also obtain membership of Spotify co-working spaces, which they have set up in all those areas where they do not have any offices.

Tata Steel

Tata Steel Limited, an Indian multinational steel-making company jumped on the work from home bandwagon as well. Tata Steel’s work from home policy called the ‘Agile Working Model‘ allows employees to opt for WFH for up to 365 days a year.

The policy ensures a better work-life balance, gives more flexibility to employees even the officers who were required to be based out of a particular location can choose to WFH for an unlimited number of days per year.

Facebook/ Meta

Formerly known as Facebook, Meta said it will give employees the option of sticking with remote work for the long term, even offering to help some interested in moving to other countries. The internet giant has shared that if an employee’s job can be done remotely, they can work from home permanently.

In December, even though the social media tech company announced that it would fully reopen its US offices on January 31, 2022, which has been delayed until March 2022 now.

Microsoft

Microsoft, the software giant said last year in a blog, “Microsoft will let its employees in the US continue working from home until further notice as the COVID-19 coronavirus continues to spread through the country.”

The company made an entire hybrid work manual that would allow its employees to work from home freely for less than 50 percent of their working week, and managers would be able to approve permanent remote work.

“We will offer as much flexibility as possible to support individual work styles, while balancing business needs, and ensuring we live our culture,” Kathleen Hogan, Microsoft’s chief people officer, said in a post on the official Microsoft Blog.

Shopify

In May 2020, Shopify is a cloud-based multichannel company that provides budding entrepreneurs and small businesses tools to create their own digital stores has switched to work from home, and now its employees can permanently work from home.

The company said, “The world is changing and we’re changing with it. Digital by design is about building new ways of connecting, collaborating, and building relationships.”

Meesho

Last week, Meesho, an e-commerce firm backed by SoftBank and Facebook said it will permanently allow its employees to work from home, office, or any location of their choice.

Vidit Aatrey, Founder & CEO of Meesho said on social media, “It’s arguably been one of the most exciting ways to kickstart our week at Meesho. We’re permanently adopting a Boundaryless Workplace model” Meeshoites now have the power to define workplace flexibility and convenience.
