Bengaluru Netizens Urge IT companies to declare permanent WFH

0

During COVID-19, most companies started working from Home (WFH), since the cases declined companies resumed Work from office.

Moreover, Bengaluru has the major IT companies, and traffic problems have also been in limelight for all the wrong reasons.

There are various employees working in Bengaluru who took to Social Media Platform X (formally Twitter) requesting IT companies to declare permanent WFH.

Manisha Swarnakar’s post read, “It’s time to take action by IT companies and Govt to give WFH to the employees or find solutions to reduce the traffic ..Worst situation experienced yesterday almost took 5 hours to reach 15 km from ofc to home”

“Been saying and will say again: The best CSR IT companies can do is allow maximum WFH (wherever remote delivery model principally works) and spare the city from choked roads and traffic pollution. That coffee and team bonding is worth it only when the commute is under 30 mins avg”, another user wrote.

“WFH works for both employees & employers. During COVID times, there were no issues around productivity, and no client escalations too. In-person collaboration is important & can happen for a day or two in a week. Only hardcore Saddists call their staff to the office every day. Period!”, another user said.

BJP leader Tejasvi Surya said on Social Media Platform X (formally Twitter), “This stretch between Hoodi to Baiyappanahalli should normally take less than 10 minutes in the Metro. But take a look at how long it takes by road. This has been the plight of Bangaloreans owing to repeated postponement of deadlines by BMRCL.”

“They are dejected by these never-ending delays. What is more astounding is the State Govt’s apathy, which is dragging its feet even after CMRS has given all approvals for operational commencement. Instead of waiting for some VIP to cut a ribbon and inaugurate, let’s throw open the KR Pura-Baiyappanahalli line to commuters, say tomorrow?”, the post added.

“If govt wills, it can happen. Commuters have been patient even after many many months of delays, let’s not put them through even one extra day of ordeal. As Bangalore Development Minister, I appeal to @DKShivakumar, Sir, if officials are waiting for you to OK the commencement, let’s open this line without any further delay”, the post further said.

“Putting up a pompous inauguration ceremony of this much-delayed line will be an insult to the public, which has waited so patiently for this line”, the post concluded.

AI, cloud to help small businesses create 45.9 million jobs

0

The cloud-enabled small businesses are finding solutions to pressing societal problems in education, healthcare, and agriculture, as per an Accenture research report commissioned by AWS.

Small businesses that embrace cloud-enabled technologies in India’s education, healthcare and agriculture sectors could unlock up to ₹1.6 trillion in annual productivity gains by 2030—a 152% increase on current levels.

Also, 45.9 million jobs are expected to be supported across these sectors by 2030, according to the “Realizing a Cloud-enabled Economy: How Cloud Drives Economic and Societal Impact Through Small Businesses” report, which covers 12 countries, including India.

The report uses the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) definition of cloud adoption levels to forecast a cloud enabled-economy in 2030 where 90% of all businesses adopt at least a basic level of cloud technology.

The report reveals that 28% of businesses in India are using at least basic cloud services, such as web-based email and storage. This leaves a lot of room for growth, as cloud services can offer multiple benefits such as cost saving, scalability, and agility.

“Cloud enables small businesses to access the same set of scalable and secure technologies as large global enterprises, and also helps them to focus on solving business problems at a fast pace and in a cost-efficient way. By adopting advanced cloud-enabled technologies like generative AI, small businesses can accelerate their growth and digital transformation. AWS is working alongside governments, educators, and the industry to help small businesses in India realize economic and social benefits while creating a better future for all,” said Deepti Dutt, Leader – Verticals, Public Sector, AWS India Private Limited.

“While there are significant benefits that are unlocked by small businesses adopting at least a basic level of cloud technology, there is still a huge opportunity for them to further advance their cloud adoption as this will accelerate their ability to address some of the biggest challenges in society,” said Aaron Hill, Managing Director of Economic Insights, Accenture Strategy and Consulting.

From facilitating remote medical consultations and improving access to education to enhancing precision agriculture, small businesses can make considerable contributions to the economy and society by moving to cloud, the report shows.

All of these contribute to achieving the  Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations.

TCS asks employees to WFO 5 days a week from October 1

An IT services, consulting, and business solutions organization, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has asked its employees to Work from the office 5 days a week from October 1, 2023 onwards.

CNBC report disclosed the official mail that read, “As communicated by CEO and chief human resources officer (CHRO) in various townhalls, it is mandatory for all associates to attend office on all the working days (5 days per week if there are no holidays) starting 1 October 2023.”

TCS has become the first IT company to deviate from the popular hybrid work policy that gained prominence after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Currently, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employees are working 3 days a week as per the company’s Return to Office initiative.

Earlier Milind Lakkad, Chief HR Officer, said, “We remain focused on developing, retaining, and rewarding the best talent in the industry, and enhancing their effectiveness by bringing them back to office to foster our culture.”

“Our Return to Office initiative is picking pace, with 55% of the workforce already in office thrice a week”, he added.

Return to office (RTO) is a coordinated plan to safely bring back employees to the workplace. Companies are updating their policies to lure employees back to the workplace and Work from the Office (WFO). However, few companies are keeping the work-from-home option open.

IT and Tech major companies including Accenture, IBM, Google, and Infosys, etc. are calling their employees back to the office and trying to have them work at least 2-3 days from the office.

On the other hand, The founder and CEO of Australian software company Atlassian, Scott Farquhar doesn’t mandate its employees to Return to Office.

“Next, you could walk out of your room and quickly grab a delicious breakfast or get a workout in before work starts. The employees can enjoy a “quiet evening on top of the rooftop deck” after their work day ends”, it added.

Cognizant has also not mandated its employees to return to the office any time soon.

“We did express that social capital is important as we have freshers in the mix who will need hand-holding. It won’t be impactful if the managers don’t come to work. We will have a more natural progression of return-to-work,” Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S said during an earnings call on Thursday.

“Our flexible return to work is actually helping us get in more women to work as opposed to affecting them,” CEO Ravi Kumar added.
