L&T has chalked out a plan to combat the second wave of COVID-19

L&T has chalked out a plan to combat the second wave of COVID-19

Amid the second wave of COVID-19, Engineering major, L&T (Larsen & Toubro) is doubling down on employee support initiatives across our campuses, offices, and project sites. The support includes special quarantine facilities, medical advice helplines, and counselling.

These initiatives fall under 3 broad areas of Safety (ensuring Covid 19 appropriate protocol at sites and providing testing and medical facilities to workmen), Medical facilities & counselling at offices as well as for those working from home, and Education – effective communication of health & safety guidelines helps employees take responsibility for their Covid 19 appropriate behaviour and protocols as well.

Quarantine Facility for Mumbai– L&T’s Corporate Technology and Engineering Academy (CTEA) at Madh has been converted into a Quarantine Facility for employees and their family members in Mumbai. The facility is supported by a visiting doctor, full-time nursing staff, a 24×7 ambulance facility, Oxygen Concentrator and cylinders, relevant medical equipment as well as basic medicines.

Quarantine Facility for Chennai– Quarantine facilities have been provided at L&T ECC Apartments in Chennai in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals. The facility is available for all Chennai-based employees of L&T.

Other sites– Multi-bed isolation units are set up at our Construction Skills Training Institutes (CSTI) at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Cuttack, Delhi, Kolkata, and Panvel.

Isolation units set up at major project sites and office locations– The company is also working towards establishing pan-India quarantine facilities in hotels. There are rigorous safety SoPs in place at all sites and campuses of L&T, and continuous communication to employees regarding health and safety advisories.

Vigilance at project sites ensures that hygiene, catering, waste management and preventive measures including social distancing is being rigorously maintained. Ambulances, doctors, and medical facilities are accessible for workmen and employees.

Counselling provided by trained professionals can make a profound impact on the lives of individuals, families, and communities. L&T provides in house counselling to help employees navigate difficult life situations during the pandemic.

The company also offers a special telephonic counselling helpline – iCALL – for employees and their families. This service provides not only support and counselling, but also authentic and verified information.

In addition to this, L&T has announced financial aid to support families of employees who die of Covid-19. The company has informed employees that it will give financial assistance to children of employees, who lost their lives due to Covid, in their education from pre-primary to senior college and professional course level.

L&T has also opted for an additional insurance cover of Rs 35 lakh per employee for a policy period of 12 months. The policy provides a 100% lump sum payment in the event of the death of an employee. This besides the group term life insurance policy which has a coverage of Rs 50 lakh to Rs 60 lakhs applicable to the employees.

According to Economic times Report, L&T said the support to the children of a deceased employee will be extended to those in the age group of 3 to 25. Benefits include financial assistance to cover tuition fees and other expenses towards uniform, books, transport, and hostel fees, subject to maximum limits. There would be scholarships for meritorious students.

L&T will also bear 75% of the course fee of vocational or professional course up to Rs 1 lakh per annum for duration of the course up to 3 years for the spouse of a deceased employee.
