Indigo‘s more than 50% of flights were delayed on Saturday. The delay was caused due to the sudden absence of a large number of IndiGo employees.

The IndiGo crew members took mass Sick Leave on Air India recruitment day. TATA-owned Air India’s phase-2 recruitment drive was conducted on Saturday.

The delays also happened on the same day when Air India conducted a recruitment drive for similar roles across different centers.

It is suspected that the absence of the staff members happened because they were attending the recruitment drive for TATA-owned Air India.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation data revealed, “More than half of IndiGo flights were delayed on Saturday after a large number of inflight crew were reported sick. As a result, around 55 per cent of the total flights operated by the country’s largest airline were impacted on July 2.”

As per officials, “The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken note of the incident and ordered Indigo to present a report on the delays.”

  • More than 900 IndiGo flights were delayed as the day ended.
  • The low-cost carrier (LCC) operates 1600 flights daily.

Flight operations at the airline returned to normal on Sunday. In comparison, to other airline groups a majority of the Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, Go First and AirAsia India flights left on time.
