Indis’s largest IT major, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) wouldn’t call back all of its employees to office. It plans to get rid of office life for many employees in India

N. Ganapathy Subramaniam, Chief Operating Officer, TCS said to media, “In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic had forced the companies to adopt new ways of working. And, when India announced its coronavirus lockdown in March last year, TCS sent thousands of employees to work from home almost overnight,”

“When the pandemic arrived, the IT firm had to shift its 96% staff to remote working. And, the main challenge for the company was to ship the essential equipment for employees. The first and foremost thing was working with the government to allow the company to run trucks so that they will be able to move things to the employees” he said

Subramaniam also said, “IT firm believes it can boost productivity by 25% by embracing more remote work. Many TCS employees feel that they have found a solution to their work-life balance,” And, when employees are happy, naturally, productivity will grow, he added.

Mumbai headquartered IT giant that employs over 500,000 people worldwide also predicts that the majority of its workforce will work remotely by 2025.

“We don’t believe that we need more than 25% of our workforce at our offices in order to be 100% productive,” said Subramaniam. 75% of employees will work remotely, he said.

TCS also believes that having most of its employees work remotely could reduce its global carbon footprint by 70% by 2025, compared to a decade earlier.

“The environment has become a lot cleaner” already over the last year, said Subramaniam to CNN Business in an Interview.

“We are getting some new neighbors, I’m seeing birds that I’ve not seen in my life,” added Subramaniam
