Wipro GE Healthcare said on Monday that a new manufacturing plant in Bengaluru will be managed entirely by women. The plant has been built under the government’s PLI scheme.

The plant will begin rolling out products by the end of March or early April and have three-hour work shifts on all days.

The Rs 100 crore unit will manufacture machines for CT Scans, Cath Labs, and ultrasonography machines, besides ventilators and patient monitors. The company will initially employ 33 women and the number will be increased to 100 when production expands, Economic Times reported.

Dr. Shravan Subramanyam, MD & CEO of India & South Asia at Wipro GE Healthcare said, “Wipro and GE Healthcare are in partnership for three decades, already we have 3 plants and technology centers. This is the 4th plant that we are introducing under the PLI Scheche brought out by the government of India.”

He further said, “The new plant unit will manufacture machines for CT Scans, Cath Labs, and ultrasonography machines, besides ventilators and patient monitors. It will be managed entirely by women.”

He added, “Having an all-women shopfloor is the “first of its kind initiative in the Medtech Industry”. This is a unique feat of GE Healthcare in India and we believe it is the right step in bridging the gender gap for our region.
