Deloitte Adds Lego Sets to $1,000 Annual Well-Being Subsidy

Deloitte, one of the Big Four accounting and consulting firms, has added a playful twist to its employee well-being strategy.

As of June 1, 2025 — the start of its fiscal year — the company’s U.S. employees can now get reimbursed for buying Lego sets and puzzles, as part of its $1,000 annual well-being subsidy.

From Gym Memberships to Lego Bricks

Deloitte well-being subsidy program, launched in the U.S. in 2019, was initially focused on traditional wellness expenses such as fitness classes, ergonomic furniture, and gym memberships.

In 2021, the firm doubled the annual allowance from $500 to $1,000 to further support employee well-being amid increasing workloads and pandemic-induced stress.

This year, the firm expanded its list of reimbursable items to include more unconventional wellness purchases, such as kitchen appliances, spa treatments, cooling fans, and now, Lego sets and puzzles.

Internal policy documents reviewed by Business Insider confirmed the updates, which quickly became a talking point across internal team chats.

Why Lego? A Creative Approach to De-Stress

The inclusion of Lego sets in Deloitte wellness policy reflects a broader understanding of mental well-being.

Building Lego structures is increasingly recognized as a therapeutic, meditative activity that helps with focus, relaxation, and creativity — all of which are important in high-stress work environments.

Deloitte employees enthusiastically embraced the change. According to internal messages, many celebrated the opportunity to buy long-coveted sets, especially the Ultimate Millennium Falcon from the Star Wars Lego series — a collector’s item priced at $850 and consisting of more than 7,500 pieces.

“Most of the responses are things like, ‘Lego?!?!? Finally!” one employee told Business Insider, adding that others joked about finally having a valid excuse to invest in such sets.

A Response to Long Hours and High Expectations

Deloitte is known for its intense work culture. Employees reportedly average 55 hours of work per week — significantly higher than the U.S. average of 34.3 hours.

The well-being subsidy is a key initiative aimed at helping employees cope with the demands of such a rigorous environment.

One employee highlighted the real-life impact of the benefit, stating, “I have been able to upgrade my workspace, and it helps with the work intake.”

Eligible salaried employees across the U.S. can use the subsidy, though interns, contractors, and employees on leave of absence are excluded.

Big Four Firms Prioritize Employee Wellness

Deloitte isn’t alone in offering such perks. Rival Big Four firm Ernst & Young (EY) also provides a similar $1,000 annual well-being allowance.

EY’s program covers items such as mattresses, gaming consoles, and ergonomic home office setups.

As competition for top talent remains fierce in professional services, such employee-centric policies could play a pivotal role in attracting and retaining talent, while also helping workers maintain a healthier work-life balance.
