In the rapidly evolving sphere of global business, India has emerged as a pivotal hub for Global Capability Centers (GCCs).

Leading this transformation are IT giants Infosys and Wipro, who are not only setting up these centers for their clients but also playing a crucial role in recruiting and nurturing talent.

This strategic move is reshaping the IT services industry and creating a symbiotic relationship between traditional IT service providers and GCCs.

Rise of GCCs in India: Infosys and Wipro’s Strategic Involvement

Global Capability Centers, also known as captive centers, are dedicated offshore units established by companies to insource IT and other business functions.

These centers leverage India’s vast talent pool and cost advantages to drive efficiency and innovation.

According to a recent report by Nasscom and Zinnov, India is home to over 1,700 GCCs, generating export revenue of $65 billion in FY24 and employing over 19 million people.

Infosys and Wipro have been at the forefront of this GCC revolution.

Both companies have adopted a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, where they help clients set up and operate GCCs before eventually transferring ownership back to the clients.

This model allows companies to benefit from Infosys and Wipro’s expertise in setting up and managing these centers, ensuring a smooth transition and operational efficiency.

Salil Parekh, CEO of Infosys, highlighted the company’s strong connection with GCCs in India.

“We are aiding them in scaling up and recruiting talent. In some instances, we also take over GCCs when clients exit, integrating them into our operations,” Sahil stated.

Similarly, Wipro’s CEO, Thierry Delaporte, emphasized the company’s strategy to partner with GCCs.

“We have the talent and can groom it, making our partnership with GCCs a win-win situation,” Thierry noted.

Talent Recruitment and Development for GCCs

One of the critical aspects of Infosys and Wipro’s involvement with GCCs is talent recruitment and development.

These IT giants are leveraging their extensive networks and expertise to attract top talent for GCCs.

They are also investing in training and development programs to ensure that the recruited talent is well-equipped to meet the demands of global clients.

Infosys, for instance, has implemented various initiatives to enhance the skills of its workforce.

The company has established training centers and launched online learning platforms to provide continuous learning opportunities for its employees.

This focus on talent development not only benefits Infosys but also ensures that GCCs have access to a highly skilled workforce.

The collaboration between Infosys, Wipro, and their global clients extends beyond setting up and operating GCCs.

These IT giants are also helping clients navigate the complexities of the Indian market and regulatory environment.

By providing end-to-end support, Infosys and Wipro enable their clients to focus on their core business activities while leveraging the advantages of operating in India.

For example, Infosys has been working closely with several multinational companies to establish and scale their GCCs in India.

The company’s deep understanding of the local market and regulatory landscape has been instrumental in ensuring the success of these initiatives.

Similarly, Wipro has been partnering with clients to develop customized solutions that address their specific needs and challenges.

Summing Up!

Infosys and Wipro’s strategic involvement in setting up and managing GCCs for their clients is reshaping the IT services landscape in India.

By leveraging their expertise in talent recruitment and development, these IT giants are helping clients unlock the full potential of GCCs.

This collaboration not only benefits the clients but also drives the growth of the IT services industry and creates new opportunities for skilled professionals in India.
