Amazon India and AWWA Join Forces to Turn Army Wives into Digital Entrepreneurs


Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Army Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA).
Announced during the annual “ElevateHER” event held in early March 2026, this partnership aims to help spouses of serving personnel, veterans, Veer Naris, and widows launch and scale their own businesses on the global e-commerce platform.
The collaboration is set to onboard hundreds of AWWA-registered entrepreneurs onto Amazon.in by 2029, leveraging digital commerce to solve the persistent challenge of frequent relocations that often hinder traditional employment for military families.
Structured Support through Amazon Saheli
Under this MoU, the entrepreneurs will be integrated into the “Amazon Saheli” program. This dedicated storefront is designed to promote women-led businesses across India.
Amazon provides a comprehensive end-to-end support system that includes structured onboarding and specialized training on e-commerce best practices.
This training covers critical operational areas such as inventory management, pricing strategies, and delivering high-quality customer experiences.
By simplifying the digital transition, the program allows these women to transform their local crafts and textiles into national brands.
Beyond educational resources, participants receive logistical backing to help their brands compete at a professional level.
This includes assistance with professional product photography and cataloguing to ensure their offerings stand out to digital consumers.
Furthermore, the entrepreneurs gain access to Amazon’s extensive fulfillment and logistics network.
This allows them to ship products efficiently to every corner of the country.
Account management support further ensures that sellers can navigate the complexities of a digital marketplace with the help of dedicated guides.
Strengthening Financial Resilience for Military Families
The partnership is viewed as a vital step for the Indian Army fraternity. It enhances the social and financial support systems for military families.
Sunita Dwivedi, President of AWWA, emphasized that the collaboration will empower members.
This initiative helps them transform their creative aspirations into sustainable and scalable business models.
