Sonata Software Appoints Balaji Kumar as Chief HR Officer

Sonata Software has re-appointed Balaji Kumar as its Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to strengthen its global people strategy.

In his new role, Kumar will lead talent management, support leadership growth, and improve workforce effectiveness across key international markets, helping the company build strong teams and drive steady business performance.

Extensive Experience and Background

Kumar returns to Sonata Software after a short time as CHRO at Paytm, where he managed HR efforts during a phase of fast business change. He previously worked as CHRO at Sonata Software from April 2022 to May 2025, handling a global team across ANZ, APAC, the UK, Europe, and the Americas.

With more than 20 years of experience, Kumar has strong expertise in HR leadership across different industries. Before his earlier role at Sonata, he held senior positions at Larsen & Toubro. He served as CHRO for its Industrial Products Division and later as Global CHRO for L&T Infotech, where he managed HR for close to 60,000 employees worldwide.

His career also includes roles at well-known companies such as Hindustan Unilever, Coca-Cola, Citibank, Microsoft, and Cholamandalam DBS. In these roles, he worked on employee relations, talent planning, learning programs, and company-wide HR practices.

Kumar started his career as a lawyer, working in lower courts, High Courts, and the Supreme Court of India.

He holds a master’s degree in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences and a law degree from Osmania University.
