Cognizant Technology Solutions is set to hire more graduates in 2025 than ever before, according to CEO Ravi Kumar S.
In a series of interviews and public statements, Ravi emphasized that the company is significantly increasing its intake of entry-level talent, including candidates from non-traditional backgrounds.
This move comes at a time when the tech industry is undergoing rapid transformation driven by artificial intelligence and automation.
Ravi’s announcement reflects a strategic shift in Cognizant’s hiring philosophy.
Rather than limiting recruitment to STEM graduates, the company is actively seeking candidates from liberal arts colleges and community colleges.
The goal is to build a diverse workforce equipped with a broad range of skills suited to the evolving demands of the digital economy.
AI as an Enabler, Not a Replacement
Addressing concerns about AI displacing jobs, Ravi clarified that artificial intelligence is not a threat to entry-level roles.
Instead, he described AI as an “amplifier of human potential.”
He explained that AI tools can empower school graduates to perform complex tasks and contribute meaningfully to business outcomes.
“I can take a school graduate and give them the tooling so they can actually punch above their weight,” Ravi said in an interview with Fortune.
He added that AI is not a displacement strategy but a means to unlock new opportunities for talent across disciplines.
Cognizant CEO’s Message to Students: Focus on Interdisciplinary Skills
In his message to students, Ravi urged them to focus on developing interdisciplinary skills.
He highlighted the importance of combining traditional knowledge areas such as history or philosophy with computational and analytical abilities.
According to Ravi, the ability to apply intelligence is becoming more valuable than narrow specialization.
“As AI makes expertise more accessible, applying intelligence becomes more critical than having deep domain knowledge alone,” he said.
This shift in emphasis is expected to redefine how companies evaluate talent and prepare employees for future roles.
Hiring Strategy Reflects Broader Workforce Trends
Cognizant’s hiring strategy aligns with broader trends in the technology sector, where companies are rethinking traditional recruitment models.
By expanding its talent pool to include liberal arts and non-STEM graduates, Cognizant aims to foster innovation and adaptability in its workforce.
The company’s approach also responds to the changing nature of work, where collaboration, critical thinking, and contextual understanding are increasingly important.
Ravi’s leadership reflects a commitment to inclusive hiring and long-term workforce development.
