The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has opened applications for its 2025 Internship Programme.
The internship is designed to allow graduate students to gain hands-on experience and deepen their understanding of UNESCO’s mandate and global initiatives.
Through this programme, interns will be able to enhance their academic and technical knowledge while contributing to meaningful projects across various sectors of the organization.
Eligibility Criteria and Requirements
Applicants must be at least 20 years old and currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent).
Recent graduates who have completed their advanced degree within the last 12 months are also eligible. However, candidates who have only completed a full-time bachelor’s degree and are not pursuing further studies will not be considered.
Proficiency in English or French—both written and spoken—is mandatory, while working knowledge of the other language is a valuable asset, particularly for positions at UNESCO Headquarters.
Candidates are expected to possess strong computer skills, effective communication abilities, and a collaborative mindset.
The duration of internships ranges from a minimum of one month to a maximum of six months.
Applicants are responsible for obtaining their own visas, travel arrangements, and financial support. It is important to note that UNESCO internships are unpaid, and there is no guarantee of placement despite eligibility.
Selected candidates will be contacted directly by hiring managers within six months of application.
Programme Details and Application Deadline
Internship opportunities are available across a wide range of divisions, including the Governing Bodies Secretariat, Office of the Director-General, Education Sector, Culture Sector, Natural Sciences Sector, Communication and Information Sector, and more.
Other areas include Priority Africa and External Relations, Digital Business Solutions, Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, and the Bureau of Human Resource Management.
Applications will remain active in UNESCO’s internship portal for up to six months, and candidates will be contacted if shortlisted.
