Zoho Targets 2,000 Jobs with New Campus in Kumbakonam

Zoho Corporation, the Chennai-headquartered global software leader, has announced a massive expansion of its operations in Kumbakonam.
During the launch of its indigenous Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution on January 23, 2026, the company revealed plans to scale its local workforce from the current 200 employees to a 2,000-seater campus.
The Hub for Indigenous Innovation
The announcement, made by Zoho Corp CEO Shailesh Davey and founder Sridhar Vembu, marks a pivotal moment for the town of Kumbakonam.
The new “made-in-India” Zoho ERP was developed with significant contributions from the local team.
By choosing Kumbakonam as the launchpad for a product aimed at challenging global giants like SAP and Oracle, Zoho is reinforcing its commitment to “Transnational Localism”—the idea of creating world-class technology from rural heartlands.
Zoho Expanding the “Tenkasi Model”
This expansion is a successful replication of Zoho’s famous “Tenkasi Model,” where the company moved operations to a small town to tap into local talent and reverse the urban talent drain.
To support this growth, Zoho plans to open a larger, state-of-the-art office later in 2026.
This facility will serve as a central hub for deep-tech R&D, specifically focusing on AI-native features and local compliance engines for the global market.
Upskilling and Community Impact
Beyond direct hiring, Zoho is investing heavily in the region’s educational infrastructure. The Zoho Schools of Learning (ZSL) recently opened a branch in Kumbakonam for its School of Technology.
This 24-month experiential training program acts as an alternative to traditional college. It prepares local high school graduates for high-paying software roles.
Through these initiatives, Zoho aims to stimulate the economy of neighboring districts like Mayiladuthurai and Thiruvarur.
At the same time, the company is building a sustainable “swadeshi” tech ecosystem.
