The Andhra Pradesh government has officially invited French technology major Capgemini to establish a massive IT development center and a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Visakhapatnam.

This ambitious proposal, presented by IT Minister Nara Lokesh during a high-level meeting with Capgemini CEO Aiman Ezzat, holds the potential to generate approximately 20,000 new jobs, marking a significant milestone in the state’s push to transform Vizag into a global technology powerhouse.

Capgemini Strategic Expansion and Talent Alignment

The meeting, held on March 12, 2026, focused on leveraging Vizag’s unique ecosystem to support Capgemini’s vast Indian workforce, which currently stands at nearly 200,000.

Minister Lokesh highlighted that many of the company’s skilled professionals originate from the north coastal region of Andhra Pradesh, making Vizag a natural choice for a “follow the talent” expansion strategy.

The government has proposed a 15,000 to 20,000-seat facility, with potential sites under review in the Mudasarlova and Madhurawada IT Park areas.

For immediate needs, the company has reportedly identified a private building near Central Park for temporary operations while planning a permanent 20-acre campus.

Beyond Traditional IT: Focus on Emerging Tech

In addition to core IT services, the state has urged Capgemini to spearhead high-value verticals, including:

  • Cloud & BPM: Establishing specialized service centers for global delivery.
  • Quantum Valley: Participating in the state’s “Quantum Valley” initiative to drive research in quantum computing.
  • Academic Collaboration: Partnering with local universities to establish laboratories focused on AI, cybersecurity, and digital product development.

Infrastructure as a Catalyst

Minister Lokesh emphasized that Vizag’s appeal is bolstered by significant upcoming infrastructure projects.

The Bhogapuram International Airport will open within three months, and the city will host the country’s largest Google data center.

Andhra Pradesh aims to position Visakhapatnam as a cost-effective and operationally superior alternative with these developments.

Consequently, the city is being promoted to compete with established hubs like Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Aiman Ezzat responded to the pitch by stating that Capgemini would review the proposals. He further noted India’s critical role in the company’s global operations.

If finalized, this move would place Capgemini alongside other giants like TCS and Cognizant, which have already expanded their presence in the port city.
