Cashfree Payments, a prominent player in India’s AI-native payments infrastructure, has announced the appointment of Sameer Gandhi as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Sameer, a veteran with over two decades of experience in global financial institutions, joins the company at a critical juncture as it pushes toward profitability and scales its advanced payment solutions.

A Pedigree of Financial Leadership

Sameer Gandhi transitions to Cashfree Payments from Visa India, where he served as the Head of Finance.

His professional background is extensive, spanning corporate finance, investment banking, and M&A across major markets.

Before his tenure at Visa, Sameer held leadership roles at Vodafone and ING Australia, starting his career at top-tier firms like Crisil and Citigroup.

At Cashfree, he will be responsible for anchoring the company’s financial strategy, streamlining revenue planning, and enhancing operational efficiency.

His appointment is seen as a strategic move to bring institutional discipline to the high-growth fintech environment.

Cashfree Payments Capitalizing on Regulatory and AI Milestones

The leadership change comes as Cashfree Payments solidifies a unique competitive position.

It is the first platform in India to secure all three essential RBI licenses: Payment Aggregator (PA), Cross-Border (PA-CB), and Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI).

This regulatory trifecta has already fueled a 250% growth in its cross-border payment segment.

Beyond traditional payments, Cashfree is repositioning itself as an AI-native leader.

The company recently launched proprietary Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, allowing AI agents to handle invoices and payments autonomously.

Akash Sinha, CEO and Co-founder, noted that Sameer’s expertise will be “instrumental” as the firm doubles down on sustainable growth and its goal of becoming profitable in the coming quarters.

Fueling Future Growth

With over $80 billion in annual transaction volume and a merchant base exceeding one million, Cashfree is well-capitalized following a recent $53 million funding round led by KRAFTON and Apis Partners.

Sameer expressed his excitement about joining during this “pivotal phase.”

He emphasized a focus on balancing cost discipline with continued innovation in the digital payments ecosystem.
